Yes, you need an active subscription to create and share checkout links. Development stores can use Checkout Links for free.

Your product needs to be available on both the Online Store and Checkout Links sales channels. Open the product in Shopify, click "Manage" in the sales channels section, select both Online Store and Checkout Links, and save your changes.
Discount codes must be activated for the Checkout Links sales channel in Shopify. Edit the discount, select Checkout Links in the sales channels section, and save.
Yes! Toggle on the Free Gift card when creating your link, select the product variant, and optionally set a minimum purchase amount.
Yes! Checkout Links works with any subscription app that uses Shopify's standard selling plans — including Recharge, Appstle, Loop, and Shopify Subscriptions. Add a subscription product to your link, click Edit on the line item, and select the selling plan. The subscription will be pre-selected for customers at checkout.
You can change or cancel your plan at any time from the settings page in your Checkout Links dashboard.
Yes, Checkout Links is built on Shopify's secure infrastructure and meets all requirements for the Built for Shopify badge.
Your links will stop working immediately. No changes are made to your theme or store settings. You can pause your plan instead of uninstalling if you want to keep your settings and data.
